Brainspotting

“Where you look affects how you feel” - David Grand, Ph.D

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a therapeutic technique that helps access and process unhealed trauma. It works by having the client focus their gaze on specific points in their visual field, identified as "brainspots," which are linked to unresolved emotional experiences and traumatic memories. By focusing on these brainspots, clients may begin to experience physical sensations or fragmented memories associated with the trauma. This process can help them release trapped emotions and reprocess the traumatic event, leading to emotional healing and integration more efficiently than traditional talk therapy.

Brainspotting can be implemented more organically throughout sessions, and uses the client’s eye gaze to initiate the processing. Unlike EMDR, Brainspotting can implement a variety of targets including memories, body sensations, and emotions rather than focusing on targeted memories.
